Twin Oaks Farm
John and Linda have greenhouses with many tropical plants, which they sell at farmers' markets in the Pioneer Valley. We are well-known for fig trees, as well as for the figs themselves! The mother fig trees are planted in the ground in our greenhouses and are the souce of our cuttings. We have several other trees planted in the ground within the greenhouses, from which we make cuttings for sale.
We also grow many small, gourmet potatoes, which Linda starts plucking from the ground as early as June!
We use only organic seeds and fertilizer, and only biological pest controls.
Much of our work is done by hand. Linda crawls up and down rows of potatoes, feeling underneath the plants for a potato to pluck, while still leaving the plant producing more! John plants the crops with planters that he walks behind and pushes through the soil. We probably have tractors that could do these jobs, but there is nothing like the sky, the air, the feel of the soil and, especially, the grandness of silence.
